However, this conclusion seems to be contradicted by the fact that vertical rhythmical thin lamination, which in normal sections of the East European craton can be seen in most of the upper Vendian claystone sequences, is almost lacking in the Dividal Group.
Overburden and interburden material consists of interbedded sandstone, conglomerate, mudstone and siltstone with lesser amounts of shale and claystone. Interburden thicknesses show considerable variation, up to 30 m in various directions across the lease.
In order to address this issue, the present study aims to properly determine the extent of the diffusive/adsorption behavior of two cations (i.e., [sup.22]Na and cesium) onto partially saturated claystone samples under intact or compacted state.
The marlstone is overlain by 3 m thick grey limestone of the Paroveja Formation containing 80-90% carbonate, and 4 m thick red dolomitic claystone of the Kuili Formation containing 12-25% carbonate.
The main rock assemblage in this segment is dark-black argillaceous rock containing organic matter (silty claystone, oil shale) interbedded with sandy dolostone and dolomitic siltstone of approximately isopachous type.
Their projection to the land surface partially overlap--in some areas the exploited material can easily exceed height of 15 m which in current geology (composed mostly of sandstone, claystone and conglomerate rock environment) makes a significant subsidence expectable.
Representative shale and claystone samples were collected from different vertical sections of the outcrops (Figure 3).
The prognosed low velocity units within the Kimberley Embayment are now understood to be related to the reflectance of the thick claystone sequences and not sandstones previously prognosed.
