(kĭsh′ə-nou′) or Ki·shi·nev (kĭsh′ə-nĕf′, -nôf′, kyĭ′shĭ-nyôf′) The capital of Moldova, in the south-central part of the country northwest of Odessa, Ukraine. It was founded as a monastery center in the early 15th century.
