cetane number

n.
A performance rating for diesel fuels, with a higher number indicating greater fuel efficiency. The number corresponds to the percentage of cetane in a cetane-heptamethylnonane mixture, or (and originally) in a cetane-methylnaphthalene mixture, with the same ignition performance as the fuel being rated. Also called cetane rating.

cetane number

n
(Chemistry) a measure of the quality of a diesel fuel expressed as the percentage of cetane in a mixture of cetane and 1-methylnapthalene of the same quality as the given fuel. Also called: cetane rating Compare octane number

Diesel Fuel Additives market is classified based on various types such as Deposit Control Ad-ditives, Cetane Number Improvers, Cold Flow Improvers, Anti-Foam Additives, Corrosion In-hibitors, Demulsifiers/Dehazers/Emulsion Preventives, Conductivity Improvers, Metal Deac-tivators, Lubricity Improvers, and Others.
The fuel properties of the biodiesel produced including specific gravity (kg/L), cetane number, oxidative stability (h), kinematic viscosity (mm2/s, 40AdegC), lubricity (HFRR, um), cloud point (AdegC), pour point (AdegC), flash point (AdegF), cold filter plugging point (AdegC), copper strip corrosion (100AdegC, 3h), sulfur content (ppm), distillation temperature (AdegC), bottom sediments and water (B.SandW) (% vol.), free glycerin (%), acid value (mg KOH/g) and ash content (%) were analyzed according to ASTM methods.
The specialty fuel additives market can be segmented product wise intofuel antioxidants, lubricity improvers, corrosion inhibitors, deposit control additives, cold flow improvers, cetane number improvers, fuel system icing inhibitors, metal deactivators etc.
Cetane number, Cetane rating or CN is an indicator of the combustion speed of diesel fuel and compression needed for ignition.
The comparison between ULSD and diesel+ (pure or blended) curves highlights the cetane number effect on the pressure development.
Physical properties of each FAME including cetane number, Kinematic viscosity, Density and Higher heating value were calculated from empirical equations [16]:
Cetane index formula was used to estimate the cetane number of biodiesel following ASTM D 613 and ASTM D, 976 while the cloud point was determined by using standard test method ASTM D 2500.
The upgraded PNS/DOE QS 013:2017: CME-blended industrial diesel oil specifications include introduction of cetane number or derived cetane number as new property, removal of distillation property, reduction in the limit of carbon residue, increase the limits of density, flash point and kinematic viscosity and updating of test method.
