The sequence of events that occurs as the heart pumps blood through the body is called the cardiac cycle. A single "beat" involves systole, diastole, and an intervening pause. Ernst Werner von Siemens demonstrated his Elektromote, the world's first trolleybus, on a 591-yard (540-m) test track in a suburb of Berlin, Germany.
