KamadevaKamadeva is the Hindu deity of human love—similar to Eros and Cupid in the Greek and Roman traditions. Kama is celebrated in the colorful and boisterous spring festival called Holi. In the Vedic age, Kama personified cosmic desire or the creative impulse. He was later depicted as a handsome youth attended by heavenly nymphs, who shot love-producing flower arrows from a sugarcane bow. Wounded Knee Massacre (1890)The Wounded Knee Massacre was the last major armed conflict of the Indian wars. After the death of Sitting Bull, a band of Sioux led by Big Foot fled into the badlands but was captured by the 7th Cavalry on December 28, 1890. The next day, as the Sioux were being disarmed, a scuffle broke out and a US officer was wounded. US troops then opened fire, killing about 200 men, women, and children in mere minutes. Venustiano Carranza (1859)After Mexican leader Porfirio Díaz was deposed in 1911, a protracted power struggle ensued. Carranza was the third person in as many years to assume executive power after Díaz's ouster, but revolutionary leaders Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata objected and responded with force.
